About Secular Oblates
A living tradition in the heart of the world
History
Benedictine oblation dates back to the first centuries of monasticism. Saint Benedict himself welcomed laypeople who wished to share the spirituality of his monasteries. Over the centuries, this tradition developed and structured itself, allowing men and women of all states of life to associate with the prayer and work of monks.
Our Spirituality
Benedictine spirituality is characterized by the balance between prayer and work, the search for God in daily activities, and attentive listening to the Word of God. The secular oblate seeks to live these values in their own life context.
The Rule of Saint Benedict
Written in the 6th century, the Rule of Saint Benedict remains surprisingly relevant. It proposes a way of life centered on the search for God, fraternal life and humility. Secular oblates draw inspiration from it to guide their daily lives.
Today
Thousands of secular oblates worldwide live their Christian commitment according to Benedictine spirituality. United to their respective monasteries, they witness in the world to the relevance of the Gospel lived according to Saint Benedict's tradition.
